NEW YORK & SINGAPORE, Jan 23, 2010 / FW/ — A fashion show on a catwalk is normal; but what if a show was held in a prison? Is it bizarre or a brilliant idea?
Kevin Carrigan, ck Calvin Klein Global Creative Director decided to unveil his Spring 2010 collection in Singapore on the grounds of the former Queenstown Remand Prison, which closed last August.
For the evening, the historic former prison was transformed into a sleek event space to preview Carrigan’s Spring 2010 ck Calvin Klein apparel and accessory offerings, which were featured on more than twenty models who were dramatically positioned on linear platforms within the cell block of the former prison.
Featured on the interior and exterior walls and in the cells of the venue, were a new series of visually stunning, large-scale video installations featuring the Spring 2010 line, which were created by acclaimed Singaporean photographer and director Geoff Ang.
An award-winning, well-known photographer and director in the Singapore and Asian fashion scene, Geoff Ang is recognized for creating beautiful and thought provoking, edgy imagery.
Since being identified as the commissioned artist, Ang began filming visual motion sequence pieces that bring together art and fashion for a unique multi-projection presentation that was showcased within the venue.
The event was attended by guests spanning the worlds of fashion, art, architecture, and entertainment, and they were joined by ck Calvin Klein models Liu Wen and Mark Cox, who were dressed in ck Calvin Klein and are presently featured in the Spring 2010 ck Calvin Klein global advertising campaign.
Additionally, Tom Murry, President & CEO, Calvin Klein, Inc., and many other executives of the company were also in attendance.
Those in attendance included actors Ethan Ruan (dressed in ck Calvin Klein) and Allan Wu; actress Cynthia Koh; as well as Ong Beng Seng & Christina Ong, Sharon Tan, Alicia Scanlon, Francesca Scarpa, Christine Pillsbury, Celina Lin (dressed in ck Calvin Klein), Alwyn Chong, Chan Soo Khian, Ling Foo, Michael & Chiwen Koh, Lai Yong Lawrence, Resham Melwani, Claudia Huegel, Devesh & Asha Chetty, Lelya Eichelberger, Tan Su Shan, George Tanasijevich, Kaori & Ray Zage, Shareen Khattar, Moira Coops, Olga Iserlis, Alice Ooi, Chris Wilson, Gaurav Kripalani, Jo Soh, Wykidd Song, and Ernesto Bedmar.
Additionally, ck Calvin Klein has pledged their support for the Yellow Ribbon Project (YRP). Launched in 2004, the YRP is a community initiative by the Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex offenders (CARE) network that aims to create awareness, generate acceptance, and inspire community action to support the re-entry of ex-offenders back to society.
