PARIS, Jan 25, 2010 / FW/ — In an urban take on the costumes of the matador and the bullring clown, Gaspard Yurkievich took elements from their ebullient attires and toned down the colors resulting to fashion forward dressing that can easily find its way to the 21st century gentleman’s wardrobe.
Using a very narrow color palette of gray, black and different washes of khaki, Gaspard Yurkievich created shirts with the iconic print of the jester and then paired with sleeveless one-button suit and slim trousers patched at the knees.
Ties are optional, especially because some of the shirts are collarless. Playing a trick with our eyes, Yurkievich also designed suits wherein the lapels are the same color of the shirt while the collar is so tiny and flat from afar, the suit looks like it is also collarless.
The most emblematic though is the suit jacket with leather appliqué on the shoulder and on one sleeve. It is so reminiscent of the matador and times, can even be thought of as a badge of honor.
