DALLAS, Feb 1, 2010 / FW/ — It was a contest between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift on who will be the Queen of the Grammy. Beyoncé won as she took home 6 prizes including Song of the Year.

But, Beyoncé should not let her guard down because current teen-heartthrob Taylor Swift who just turned 20 received 4 Grammys including the top prize Album of the Year.

This is not a scene of the old guard versus the new guard; this is about the fractalization of the music audience. The days of one music genre dominating the airwaves are gone.

In an era where publishing can be as easy as uploading your music to a social networking site, stardom is within reach to more aspiring musicians than it was a decade ago.

Or, is it? The rules of the game had changed. It is not just about the music anymore. It is about going viral, to use a social networking term. It is about putting together an “act” beginning from your public persona to your private persona.

Case in point is Lady Gaga; a newcomer in the scene, her meteoric rise to popularity is largely due to her outlandish outfits. She is always a good copy for writers and always a photo-op wherever she goes.

And, so is Taylor Swift; sweet and poised, the country-pop singer can be the girl-next-door who became famous. Of course, an off-stage romance with Taylor Lautner who is also a teen heartthrob on his own because of the “Twilight” saga, keeps both Taylors on gossip columns and paparazzi list all the time.

The music remains the focal point, because if it was not, then there would be no tweets about Taylor Swift hitting sour notes during her performance with Stevie Nicks. Interestingly enough, being off-key on national television did not make her less popular.

In fact, because of social networking, those sour notes put her on Twitter trends. Go figure! Do we love Taylor Swift less? Of course not! Those mistakes just made her more human to us.
