georges_chakraF1001NEW YORK, Updated Feb 17, 2010 (Feb 13, 2010) / FW/ — Georges Chakra wowed with his fall 2010 collection, highly reminiscent of his Haute Couture showing from July 2009 with rich velvets and dainty lace abounding.

The moody ensemble brought to mind a stoic sophisticate that has a flare for the whimsical with cut outs and asymmetric backs keeping onlookers guessing. While the frontals were perfection, the drama lied behind with lapels reversed to frame the napes of necks rather than collarbones, and gigantic back ties securing billowy velvet blouses.

Va-va-voom scarlet gowns and minis popped against an otherwise subdued color pallet of taupes, black, pewter, navy and gold. Chakra participated in the glove trend, with short silver pairs and opera-length gauntlets in inky leather and lace adding old-school theatrics.

Lace was a huge factor overall, from sheer black floor-length skirts, ponchos, and jackets to crimson beaded mesh highlighting the décolletage. In contrast to his girly sherbet spring collection, his latest showing oozed a more adult sex appeal, with each piece having long-term staying power as Chakra traded fleeting trends for updated classics.

And shoulder pads…? There were NONE thus an imagined collective sigh of relief to this over-done trend becoming, well, over.
