Finding its Place under the Fashion Sun

montreal_notre_dame

DALLAS, Feb 27, 2010 / FW/ — As an emerging fashion capital, Montreal finds itself competing for attention from New York, London, Milan and Paris; and with the international fashion season in full swing, Montreal’s effort to find its place under the fashion sun becomes more pertinent and significant.

Historically, Montreal is Canada’s center of commerce and culture, qualities that the city shares with New York, London, Milan and Paris.

But, while these four cities are recognized as the dominant fashion capitals worldwide, Montreal is still considered an emerging fashion city. Because like what Los Angeles and Toronto, even Vancouver and Miami had found out early on, New York casts a long shadow when it comes to North American fashion.

Still, Montreal is very much in the running in becoming a major fashion center. First, there are enough talents in the city like Philippe Dubuc and Mackage to capture the fashionistas attention. Second, the verdict is still out on which city is the Canadian fashion capital. Third, there are enough big businesses in the area to sponsor emerging talent and collaborate with the City of Montreal to make Montreal Fashion Week a fashion destination.

In short, Montreal Fashion Week has a lot to offer; it’s just a matter of discovering what they are.
