PARIS, Mar 19, 2010 / — Harry Halim is the quintessential designer’s designer, trailblazing his way from upstart to fashion designer du jour, marking Jakarta, Singapore and now Paris as his base.

Indonesian born, of Chinese heritage, Harry Halim, then aged 17, moved to Singapore, and attended Lasalle College of the Arts. There he made his mark after receiving “Best Graduation Runway Collection” from his alma mater.

In 2005, Harry was already designing the first collection for the Asian Young Fashion Designers 2005.
Launching his first womenswear collection, BIAS in 2006, a collection of startlingly, delicately draped pieces in black and red were greeted with critical acclaim and overwhelming press response. He was crowned winner at the Asian Young Fashion Designer Contest with this collection. He was also announced finalist at the Mercedes-Benz Asia Fashion Awards that same year.

Besides running his own label, he was designing for a commercial apparel house in China and London. In 2007 he presented his second collection at the Singapore Fashion Festival while continuing his quiet aesthetic of refined elegance. This was quickly followed with a fully-fledged third collection called LIES that showed at the Singapore Fashion Week the next year, which drew impressive response frominternational press and buyers.

Harry Halim also contributed to the Singapore Design Festival, where he collaborated and curated an exhibition called Moonlies. In 2008 he was awarded Best Asian Young Designer of the Year and was featured in the International industry-go-to compendium, Asian Young Fashion Designers published by Daab that showcased rising young stars.

By the end of 2008 he relocated to Paris, to be where the pulse and heartbeat of fashion beat for more. Currently immersed totally in Parisian culture, he is in the midst of launching his next collection; a visual tribute to his own dark version of sensuality.
