LOS ANGELES, May 27, 2010 / — Dime Piece, the new slang for “perfect 10” referencing the American 10 cent coin called a dime and the old Olympics rating of 1 – 10 that became part of pop culture when Russian gymnast Nadia Comanice received a perfect 10 score from the judges.

A dime piece, defined by the Urban Dictionary as “a beautiful, gorgeous, sexy woman or girl; but it’s not just her looks, it’s her personality as well.”

Founding the label in Spring 2007, Ashley Jones and Laura Fama named it Dime Piece as an intentional irony referring to today’s society’s penchant of rating women by a number scale. As Ashley Jones explained, “How dense is our society that we rate women by a number scale? We mean for the term ‘DimePiece’ to be ironic and rule-breaking.”

And, that they did! With Dime Piece, each season’s line is expressed by modern pop-art-themed prints and t-shirts with the cheekiest and most feminist of phrases, along with hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings and tanks.

And for Spring / Summer 2010, Jones and Fama ventures into the sensationalized, fast-paced and drug-ridden culture that society stresses to our youth.

Titling the collection, “Too Much Too Young,” the designers explore the view of today’s youth in trippy imagery induced by stimulants while also emphasizing the disillusionment, the lies and inaccuracies brought on by drugs.

With uncensored graphics, provocative cuts and silhouettes, DimePiece asks, “What is too much? What is too fast?”
