NEW YORK, Oct 21, 2010 / FW/ — Sunglasses have long been the accessory of choice for multi-platinum selling recording artist and acclaimed music icon Mary J. Blige. Fans have equated sunglasses with the artist since her debut onto the music scene in 1992.

Making the decision to design and create a line of signature eyewear was a seamlessly natural fit for the fashion enthusiast. Hence, it was not surprising when Mary J. Blige, together with and Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records joined forces with Orange 21 Inc. to develop “Melodies by MJB,” a signature line of fashion sunglasses.

Pulling inspiration from old Hollywood glamour, iconic Jacqueline Onassis and the assertive and stunning Bond Girls, Mary’s designs are timelessly chic, yet distinctive and modern. She creates with the independent woman in mind, advising, “Your sunglasses shouldn’t wear you, it is you who wears them.”

October 2010 marks the launch of Mary J. Blige’s premiere line of sunglasses, Melodies by MJB at luxury fashion retail giants, Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom.

The debut collection, retailing approximately between $150 – $250, features four unique styles with a total of twenty rich color options, including bone, tortoise and eggplant. Each distinct style represents a specific facet of Blige’s life; Showtime, Red Carpet, Incognito and The MJ’s.

The Melodies by MJB signature logo is the designer’s artistic take on the ancient symbol of infinity, unbounded and everlasting. Mary’s eyewear, as with the melodies she sings, have an internal quality to them; always relevant, always fashionable, one to fit every mood and every occasion.

The two tears themselves signify the passion and intensity with which Mary crafts her art and career; tears of struggle and tears of joy. “My Melodies are forever,” says the designer.
