FLORENCE, Jan 14, 2011 / FW/ — Unveiled this week at the 79th Edition of Pitti Imagine Uomo, the emerging sportive lifestyle shoe brand Cipher has caught the attention of both press and buyers with its fusion of “urban” and “contemporary” style.

In fashion, “urban” and “contemporary” are not synonymous. While “urban” is usually associated with the hip-hop subculture, “contemporary” is often thought of as modern, city living and usually associated with metro males and girls.

Founded by Canadian-born designer Collin Thompson who grew up in Los Angeles and then moved to Hong Kong to study film, there is an international flair to the brand since its inception.

Created with contemporary art, music, film, design, urban culture, and high fashion as part of its DNA, Cipher became one of the harbingers of the emerging “world-metropolitan culture” who crave contemporary urban fashion with an international perspective and a pop-culture twist.

CIPHER has become the cultural sponge that absorbs the global zeitgeist and turns the shared beliefs of creative individuals – into tangible products that galvanize a trans-national culture of modern lifestyle enthusiasts.

The first footwear collection was launched in Holiday 2008, which led to further successes in Spring/Summer 2009, conquering retail stores throughout Tokyo’s Harajuku area, as well as Lane
Crawford in Hong Kong.

Autumn/Winter 2010 sees a further expansion in Hong Kong, retailing at D-MOP, brothers & sisters and Kapok, as well Les Printemps in Paris and other independent boutiques. Future plans include expansion into handbags, women’s shoes, and small leather goods.

The brand makes its debut at Pitti Imagine Uomo this season and unveils its Fall/Winter 2011 collection.
