PARIS, Mar 10, 2011/ FW/ — Dai Fujiwara is a true master of his craft. It is rare that a designer lets his audience in on the process of design and creation, but this season, Fujiwara made about 400 lucky industry folk privy to his genius.

In a live demonstration of his creative process for this collection, the show began with a live performance of the folding of life-size origami. This paper soon transformed into garments, as the models paused for the artists to dress them in the folded frocks. Giving us the skeleton of the Issey Miyake collection, these paper outfits served as the starting place for the rest of the beautifully artistic show.

As each of the origami models walked the runway, they were followed by the fabric creation that stemmed from their paper piece. Floating down the runway to the sounds of live piano, the audience finally understood the process from start to finish.

Focusing on fabrics like houndstooth, other bold prints, and color blocking, Fujiwara created angular vests, drop waist skirts and bandeau tops.

As Dai Fujiwara’s last season with Issey Miyake, his collection was lyrical has certainly left a lasting impression.
