PARIS, Jun 25, 2011/ FW/ — Friday night, at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, Bill Gaytten debuted as the new Creative Director of the John Galliano label. A graduate of the University College London, Gaytten has been with the company for 23 years and thus understands, perhaps even played a big part in creating the DNA of the house.

For his debut collection, Gaytten was inspired by the 1960s London pop-art scene resulting to a very eclectic collection that features frock coats and military jackets for daywear and slim, sharp and sexy Le Smoking jackets for evening.

And while this is more than just a competent collection wherein the sharp tailoring that we expect from the label is achieved, the piazza and the magic that the label’s founder is missing. The question that remains is whether John Galliano is coming back to his own house or not.
