NEW YORK, Sep 8, 2011/ FW/ — Last night at the Asia Society, designer Mimi Plange unveiled her Spring/Summer 2012 collection to the crème de la crème of fashionistas that included Andre Leon Talley of Vogue.

Inspired by the Himba and Herero women of present day Namibia, Mimi Plange globally infused floral prints and pastel colors, in her Spring 2012 compilation offering clean, streamlined silhouettes.

Showing 19 looks, Plange’s presentation offers modern and body skimming garments. The color-story for the seasons are eastern-inspired pale pastels in eggshell blue, coral, and yellow-infused with brights like fuchsia, kelly green and neon orange. Plange’s use of classic silks combined with interesting textiles such as silk twill, silk nylon bubble-mesh, silk nylon jacquard, reverse silk charmeuse, and silk georgette, produce flattering, body-contouring styles.

“I wanted to take the Eastern floral of Spring, the traditional dress of the Himba, the Victorian dress of the Herero, and blend them together into something modern, soft and strong,” comments designer and creative director, Mimi Plange. “Despite the current global turmoil, the future is continually blooming.”
