Surprise! The final line-up of student designers for its 11th Supima Cotton Design Competition is composed of women. As announced by Supima on July 17th, these seven women who hails from schools all over the country have been given the mandate to create capsule collections using Supima cotton fabrics. The collections are then evaluated and presented in a collective runway show during New York Fashion Week.

The seven women designers selected for this year’s competition who will present their collections on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Pier 59 are:

  • Alanna Lizun, Kent State University
  •  Bryn Lourié, Rhode Island School of Design
  •  Genevieve Lake, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
  •  Jessica Chang, The New School, Parsons
  •  Jessica Rubinstein, Savannah College of Art and Design
  •  Lili Shi, Fashion Institute of Technology
  •  Paula Amaral, Academy of Art University

Supima is also proud to announce that fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra will be returning for the fourth time as mentor to the seven finalists, providing thoughtful feedback and insight throughout the process.

Lastly, this year the Supima has linked up with talent recruitment firm 24Seven to market the Supima Design Competition finalists’ portfolios to fashion houses across North America and Europe.
