Zadig & Voltaire presented its Fall/Winter 2019 collection. For starters, the venue—famous in the 1980s and ‘90s as a nightclub that played host to the rise of Club Kids—set an ultra-cool tone. With a slight fog in the air pierced by studio lights from above, models walked down a black carpeted runway atop the wooden floor and beside industrial steel beams.

An effortless unadulterated strut kickstarted the collection back to the 90s, with immediate focus on the undeniable masculinity. There was a slouchy, baggy take on several pieces, but many were tailored. We saw tuxedos (and tuxedo jackets), meticulously distressed sweaters (think strategic rips), athletic sweaters (in collaboration with the NBA for lucky Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies fans), leather pants (semi baggy), knit sweaters (chunky and long), and accessories galore (like beanies, sunglasses, and slouchy bags).

Feminine codes were woven throughout, like a lace dress peeking out from underneath a big sweater and a matching green top, skirt, and bag. There were creative director Cecilia Bönström’s new takes on the brand’s classics, like the Zadig coat, the Twin’s bag, the Cara boots, and the faux fur, too. And for the cake’s icing, we made note of a unique new collaboration with jewelry designer Cécile Fricker Lehanneur.
