MILAN, Feb. 26, 2011 /FW/— For Fall Winter 2011 Veronica Etro drew inspiration from the recovery of ancient civilizations and their priceless treasures of ancient tapestries and braiding. The result is a blend of colors and patterns that are attentive and respectful of ancient traditions, which is revealed by the texture of the threads, like floating carpets, reproduced in prints and fabrics that stand out in their almost liquid like iridescence.
The decorative language of these ancient cultures is given life through the colorful, twisted Paisley print, braids and three-dimensional tapestry prints. The iconographic aesthetics translate into solid shapes and vertical silhouettes, structured but feminine.
Essentials in this collection are the great coat in cloth, tweed or covered in coin jewels for the evening, open to simple shirts and skirts closed by buckles, which often consist of overlapping panels of tartan mohair that caress the body like a soft blanket. The shapes cross the line somewhere between the Highlander and soft Kimono styles. The colors are vibrant and blend with the tones of coal, rust and turquoise in all of their gradations.
The metallic reflections are multiplied in the accessories and jewelry. The classic Paisley reappears as oxidized silver patches on the bags. The leather pouches, ankle boot and sandals are crossed by conspicuous zippers and chains that are also seen in belts and necklaces “barbarucu,” post-industrial, shining like armor and swords of the Valkyries.
Down to the details like the color palette, fringed leather trim, braided hair, oversized yet feminine proportions, this collection personified the essence of ancient civilizations in a modern and fluid way.
