Monique Lhuillier Spring 2009

NEW YORK, Sep 10, 2009 / FW/ — When it was announced that Monique Lhuillier will bring on the catwalk a cocktail dress made of denim, first thing that came to mind was if there was someone who could pull it off, it would be her! And she did!

A sleeveless ensemble with a jewel neckline and slim silhouette courtesy of a slim waist, the denim cocktail dress was given a 3-inch band Swarovski crystals and gold trimmings on the shoulders to give it that rich feeling.

It blended so well with the whole collection that denim looked natural to be on the same catwalk with the red carpet worthy gowns and dresses in yellows, turquoise blues, fossil whites, and golden wheat stalks which featured jewelry John Hardy jewelry.

Handcrafted from hard-to-find vintage shells and then sculpted with gold and set with colorful gems, John Hardy’s Cinta seashell rings, pendants, and cuffs were the perfect compliment to Monique’s ornate and elegant gowns.

To many, red carpet dressing might be a sport, but that perception never stopped Monique Lhuillier from being experimental. With that bold move, the Los Angeles-based designer demonstrated that unpredictability is still an element when it comes to elegant dressing.
