DALLAS, May 15, 2010 / FW/ — Inspired by Americana, Bensoni’s Spring / Summer 2010 collection cleverly uses patriotic emblems as elements without being cliché.
Usually, when one says patriotic, first thing that comes to mind are stars and stripes. Sonia Yoon and Benjamin Channing Clyburn, the design duo behind the label Bensoni took a different path and thought of the rose, which is actually the floral emblem of the U.S.
The floral / rose print, be it the jacket or the sheath dress is a witty take on American symbolism. And yes, there are the requisite stripes, but they were ingeniously incorporated in skirts and in the sailor dress done in navy and red stripes.
Of course, there is the expected red, white and blue, which are also smartly proposed in the scarlet sheath dress, strapless white cocktail dress and the floral organza dress in denim blue.
Giving a nod to popular culture, Sonia Yoon and Benjamin Channing Clyburn also created the Beverly Hills Girl Scout Dress, which is a homage to the Girl Scouts of America, while at the same time brings back memories of the Shelly Long comedy movie, “Troop Beverly Hills”.
Memorial Day, the official start of summer, which falls on May 31st, is literally two weeks away. Show your patriotic colors without being cliché and wear a Bensoni.
