1cartier_necklace_ciNEW YORK, Jan 16, 2008 / FW/ — You’ve heard of people finding ‘treasures’ in their grandmother’s attic or closet like an original Chanel suit created by Coco Chanel herself, and it is still in the height of fashion.

Generally, we call these items ‘vintage’ simply because they are not part of the current collection. But, some call it ‘antiques’ in the broad sense of the word. And though ‘antiquing’ usually pertains to home decorating, a new trend is coming up wherein antique pieces, mostly jewelry are worn by high profile celebrities as part of their total look.

Take the one-of-a-kind Cartier Art Deco diamond and cognac citrine necklace (photo at left) from 1934 that Chloe Sevigny recently wore to the opening of Kentshire Gallery on Madison Avenue.

Comprised of 15 square citrines, surrounded by round diamonds and flanked by citrine baguettes, each plaque is linked by two additional citrine baguettes and terminating in a large square citrine and diamond pendant in platinum.

If you’ve watched the movie ‘Atonement’ starring Kiera Knightly, then chances are you loved her in the turn of the 20th century emerald green dress. Match that dress with an Art Deco cuff bracelet in 18K gold, with a swirled design featuring two cabochon emeralds with Old European pave set diamond crescents from 1930 (see photo at right) and you’ve got the hottest look in the room.
