NEW YORK, Sep 10, 2009 / FW/ — In what is arguably one of the best shows of the season, Peter Som proposed romantic looks in a color palette of neutral tones of sandy beige to several shades of blue then to the dramatic color spectrum of a desert sunset.
Inspired by the movie ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, Peter Som brought his audience to a desert oasis where the ladies seduced you with their hair hanging loose, shorts cuffed at the hem and brief skirts.
Mid-calf dresses cinched at the waist, patchwork tees and a rose washed suede shirtdress, this is a sexy and seductive rendition of the Peter Som lady. Yet, in the midst of all this sensuality, there was never a hint of vulgarity. It was classy, chic and sophisticated.
And while the runway showed a winning set, the front row brought Olympic gold. Nastia Liukin, winner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games All-Around Gold for gymnastics sat front row with tennis champ Maria Sharapova and actresses Elizabeth Banks and Kate Mara.
Her first appearance at the Bryant Park tents ever, her visit to fashion week is also business related. Scuttlebutt at the tents says that the gymnast might launch her own clothing line with GK.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the room is a whole delegation from Vogue led by the glossy’s ediatrix, Anna Wintour. But, Olympic Gold won over editorial power. The photographers were all huddled around Nastia Liukin. Then Maria Sharapova joined her, and it became paparazzi heaven.
