PARIS, Oct 1, 2008 / FW/ — The spring / summer collection 2009 started from an old book with a collection of documented dried and pressed plants of different species. The fabrics are all natural, cottons, draped viscose and silks.

Cotton knitwear and flower embroidered crisp cotton poplins, chequered jacquards and silkscreen prints. The color card goes from optical white through pale malva, lavender, and raspberry to dark indigo blue.

Designed by Finnish-born, Barcelona-based Cecilia Sörensen, the collection being presented in Paris is her eponymous label. Sorenson designs two women’s wear collections ‘Cecilia Sörensen’, and ‘Pequeños Héroes’, a line made of recycled material.

The Pequeños Héroes collection is made of selected recycled material, such as antique sheets, pillowcases, men’s shirts and waistcoats. Dresses and skirts are cut out from sheets one by one, emphasizing the original handmade embroideries and lace trimmings, and finally piece dyed in the colours of the collection.

Recycled men’s shirts are transformed by pleating and gatherings to become women’s clohtes while men’s tailored waistcoats are transformed into bag thus creating unique pieces, with a strong ecological effort working with recycled material.

Cecilia Sörensen (Helsinki 1976), winner of the ‘Young Designer of the Year’, ModaFAD, prize in 2002, makes her own collection and has two shops: a designer’s collective shop, Comitè, since 2002, and she is also co-owner of Bingo Shop, opened in 2006, both situated in Barcelona.

Previously she designed for Antonio Miró. She graduated as BA in Fashion Design in 2001 in Barcelona, a degree started in Britain. She had studied tailoring in Helsinki, Finland.

Cecilia Sörensen has shown her collection several times at Circuit, ModaFad and Pasarela Gaudí/ Barcelona Fashion Week. The collection is sold in eight countries: Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Japan and in the USA.
