DALLAS, Dec 26, 2008 / FW/ — 58 shows in Europe, North America and South America, 2,350,282 fans attending, Madonna’s ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour grossed over $280 million in ticket sales, reported Live Nation, the largest producer of live concerts in the world.

Along with record breaking ticket sales in South America with a total 650,000 tickets sold, the ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour sold 72,000 tickets at Zurich’s Military Airfield Dubendorf — the largest audience ever assembled for a show in Switzerland.

In London, where she performed in front of 74,000 fans with over 12 million dollars in ticket sales, Madonna surpassed all previous records at both the old and new Wembley Stadiums.

In New York City, Madonna’s four sell-outs at Madison Square Garden shows added up to a record breaking 23 sold out performances since 2001 at that venue — a record for most appearances for a single artist in this decade.

She might be 50, but Madonna continues to be one of the biggest stars of our time, her popularity spanning two generations of fans. She also continues to be one of the most bankable and most recognized face and name. She also transcends demographics. A few years back, she was the face of Gap; currently, she headlines the Louis Vuitton ad campaign.

The master of reinventing oneself, Madonna had never ceased to amaze her fans and her detractors since the 1980s when she catapulted to world fame as a performer. Like other baby boomers, Madonna had refused to grow old. Unlike other baby boomers, she seemed to have found the fountain of youth! In more ways than one, Madonna had become timeless.

And as Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring about Madonna’s record breaking tour, “[She] has yet again demonstrated her true global appeal as a live performer whether in stadiums or arenas. Not only will this tour be the top selling tour of all time for a solo artist and a female artist (eclipsing her own record), but it will position her as one of the top selling touring artists of all time.”
