MILAN, Apr 22, 2009 / FW/ — Persol, an Italian brand founded by Giuseppe Ratin in 1917 in Turin well known for its excellence in making optical glasses and sunglasses. For almost a century, Persol’s optical products have been produced by a special manufacturing process that combines manual skill, culture, passion and dedication.

“A Work of Persol,” a new 2009 advertising campaign as well as a creative project with which the brand will appear for the fourth consecutive year at the 48th International Furniture Show in Milan, with its own exhibition space at the OTTO ZOO art gallery and adjacent spaces at Via Vigevano, 8 in Milan.

The young artists featured in the “A Work of Persol” project have created works of art that, like Persol eyewear, exemplify substance, artistic precision and design. They are contemporary works of art, designed and crafted with care, technique and skilled hands.

Each artist stands out for a creative process that involves an interesting material experience, wherein materials are a fundamental part of the work, in the research phase as well as in the execution phase.
In the same way, in the development of Persol’s collections, the selection of the best Italian materials for manufacturing is an important and significant stage in attaining the final product.

The artists all come from different parts of the world. They have been selected for demonstrating a specific sense of belonging to their place of origin. This quality plays an important role in their aesthetic research and makes them true ambassadors of their culture in a global context.

The tenth artist is Persol, a wearable work of art, of substance and style. Persol, a brand with a long tradition of quality firmly rooted in Italy, at once contemporary and international, chooses creative partners who are first and foremost endorsers of these values.

The nine works of arts will be shown for the first time on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile and the actual creative processes will be revealed and related in an exhibition that will focus on the creative and material experience and both global and local influences.

The exhibition will open with an exclusive event on the evening of April 21 with all the artists in attendance and will be open to the public of the Fuori Salone from April 22 to April 27, 2009.

Fabio d’Angelantonio, Chief Marketing Officer Luxottica Group, which owns the Persol brand, stated: “The Persol style embraces the values of the authentic tradition of art hand-crafted in Italy, which makes Persol an unrivalled benchmark for prestige accessories. We are proud to share this unique experience with some of the most interesting contemporary artists on the international scene. ‘A Work of Persol’ represents a new fundamental goal in the expression of Persol style.”
