J Smith Esquire Fall 2009

BARCELONA, Apr 8, 2009 / FW/ — Simply entitled THREE, Justin Smith under the label J Smith Esquire unveils his third collection. A poet by heart, he wrote:

The Third Collection.

Natural Instincts. Natural Behaviour. Heightened Senses.
Survival & Growth. Wild & Free.
Impulsive Reactions. Hunting for pleasure.
Sculptural, un-washed luxuries from the wilderness.

Then, he finished with a quote from Elke Koska, “Sometimes I wear strawberry tarts or birds on my head, you should see my apartment.”

British-born Justin Smith began his career as a hairdresser, but it later became clear that his real vocation lay in millinery. From 2002 to 2007, he studied the subject at the Kensington and Chelsea College, and at the Royal College of Art, where he was awarded an MA in Millinery.

He has won and been a finalist in various hairdressing contests, including the Wella Total Image Award (2001) and the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, Fellowship Academy of Merit And Excellence (2002).

He has also won awards for hat design, winning first prize as Hat Designer of the Year (2006) and gaining New Generation Sponsorship from the British Fashion Council (2007). His work has appeared in various publications, including the Italian and British editions of Vogue, and L’Officiel Hellas.
