NEW YORK, May 29, 2012/ — Spanish designer Laura Vela designs for the woman who is brand-enthusiastic, not brand obsessed. A bag should be a reflection of its wearer both inside and out. Laura Vela captured a following in Argentina from a bag she assembled for herself while she was studying the use of leather and textiles under craftsmen from world-renown tanneries. The personal requests of style-savvy passers-by led Vela to establish her namesake handbag line in 2011. Each collection draws inspiration from people that have significantly impacted her life, including members of her family. Born in Zaragosa, Spain, Vela grew up traveling all over the world, feeding her passion for travel, nature and landscapes. She graduated from the prestigious Spanish ESADE business school before moving to New York, where she continued her studies at Parsons’ The New School of Design. While perfecting her craft as a designer, Laura found unexpected success right from the start. Her awe-inspiring designs simply spoke for themselves. She was the youngest of a select group of up and coming designers showcased as part of the Accessories exhibit during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the Fall/Winter 2011 – 2012 shows. Since the exhibition, Laura Vela has developed a following of an eclectic international audience of style icons, including Olivia Palermo, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and international models like Irina Lazareanu and Clara Alonso. |
