Skingraft was founded in Los Angeles, California in 2006 by brothers Jonny and Christopher Cota. And for Fall 2014, they were is inspired by the idea of drastic climate change and an inevitable return to a dystopian survivalist future.
Entitled Alpha, the ollection pulls from Siberian, Mongolian, and arctic tribal cultures who have adapted, thrived and built communities in harsh climates and severe conditions for centuries.
This arctic inspiration is filtered through Skingraft’s signature nomadic streetwear lens and explores new fabrications including hand-quilted leather and mohair, shaved ponyhair, ribbed nylon-fused fleece and intricate embroideries detailed with leather and metal jewels.
Credited as a pioneer of the new American avant-garde, Skingraft’s roots in performance art-inspired fashion influence its seasonal collections, where music and its lifestyle-driven subcultures strongly inspire the cuts, colorways, and fabrication of the brand’s signature dark, body-conscious designs.
Skingraft is stocked globally by the world’s premiere retailers and influential boutiques. Skingraft New York opened in Soho in 2013, joining Skingraft Los Angeles as part of the brand’s ever expanding roster of brick and mortar outposts.
Even as Skingraft continues to push boundaries and redefine itself season afte season, it is always identifiable by its unique layered aesthetic, intricate detailing and standout silhouettes — often imitated but never duplicated.
