GENEVIEVE LAKE
Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising
Inspired by Project Runway, Genevieve Lake watched every episode of the first season and would sketch her own designs alongside the contestants. She quickly fell in love with sketching clothing and took it one step further when she designed her first dress for her First Communion. After receiving rave reviews from friends and family, Lake knew she wanted to be a fashion designer.
Once Lake was old enough, she learned how to sew from her mother and continued to hone her skills sketching, designing and sewing. Lake enrolled at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, where she recently graduated with a Major in Fashion Design. Lake’s Supima Design Competition collection “Paper Doll” was inspired by society’s tendency to put up a façade to those around them. The minimalist, sleek silhouettes will highlight vibrant colors and an extravagant design element.
