MONTREAL, Oct 1, 2010 / FW/ — Entitled, “Black Star,” designer Naana Tennachie Yankey dedicated her Spring 2011 collection to the Black Stars, the national soccer team of her native Ghana.

For those among us who are fans of hockey and American football, dedicating a fashion collection to a soccer team seems out of the ordinary.

Still, soccer is an international pastime outside of North America and Naana Tennachie Yankey who is originally from Ghana and traveled to Canada via the UK, seeing her hometown team Black Star reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals is a great honor.

After all, Black Star is only the third African team in history to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

That said, and moving on to fashion, the Coccolily by Naana Tennachie Yankey’s Spring/Summer 2011 Collection was inspired by 1960s shapes and geometry.

Sending vibrant shades of orange, blue and red, the Coccolily woman is a peacock who is not ashamed to show her true colors for spring.
