New York Spring 2008

NEW YORK, Aug 30, 2008 / FW/ — Walter, a well-known contemporary brand that is available at Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, was named the winner of the 2008 LU Style Award.

Founded by Walter Barker in 1991, the label will hold its first ever runway show on Sunday, Sep 7th at 10:00 AM at the Metropolitan Pavilion. The show is co-sponsored by LU, Style 360 and ELLE Magazine.

The LU Style Award sweepstakes was created to choose the year’s most imaginative, innovative and intelligent fashion designer. The sweepstakes was voted on by Elle readers who voted online at Elle.com. WALTER, who competed against two other designers, was commissioned to create sketches inspired by the iconic LU cookies & submit original designs on which to be judged.

Perhaps the reason that Walter is this year’s LU Style Award winner is because he creates his apparel with the same artistry in which Lu creates biscuits–each piece is like a work of art. LU has created some of the world’s most delicious and distinctive biscuits sine 1850. LU is a creative muse to many artists, with renowned illustrators evoking the brand’s chic spirit through one-of-a-kind posters for over a century.

The runway show will feature WALTER’s exquisitely tailored clothing, which includes; flirty romantic tops, signature jackets, beautiful dresses and spring suitings. Three spectacular runway looks will be inspired by the famous LU biscuits, including the favorite cookie of Walter’s staff, Le Petit Ecolier, better known to us as “The Little School Boy”.

Walter’s three unique LU inspired looks will be auctioned for charity at an event hosted by Nigel Barker, at Bloomingdale’s on Monday night, September 8th. All proceeds from the auction will go to “Clothes Off Our Back,” Bradley Whitford and Jane Kaczmarek’s charity, which allows different charities to win money from today’s hottest celebrity worn fashions.

The WALTER Collection can be found at fine retailers such as, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales, as well as in the world’s best specialty stores.
