Alex and Ani Halo Collection
Alex and Ani Halo Collection

NEW YORK, Apr 19, 2009 / FW/ — No, this jewelry collection is not based on the very popular strategy game HALO Wars. Believe it or not, the word halo actually has a divine meaning that is associated with angels and saints.

Scientifically, it is a circle of light appearing to surround the sun or moon due to a refraction or reflection of light. Artists from Middle Ages to the Renaissance put halo in their religious paintings, and thus the definition, “the aura of glory, veneration, or sentiment surrounding an idealized person or thing.”

Carolyn Rafaelian, the designer behind the label Alex and Ani, has divine protection in mind when she created her HALO jewelry collection which is based upon the theory of energy and its usage through the 17 symbolic charms comprised in the collection.

“I put intention into my creations,” Rafaelian says. “I create with a purpose. Alex and Ani was created to facilitate human consciousness. This company is about awareness, empowerment, inner beauty, and the mystically divine.”

Softly creating a statement around the neck, the 16 inch chain hangs directly below the throat chakra, which is the power spot that determines how we express our thoughts and creativity.

Each charm offers inspiration through symbolic meanings from St. Christopher, which offers strength, compassion and aid and the Om, which evokes creation, oneness and truth to the Descending Dove that signifies truth, peace and faith.

Available in 18k vermeil and sterling silver, these keepsakes work alone or layered.

The line, which is made in the USA with recycled scrap metal, is named after Carolyn Rafaelian’s two daughters.
