BARCELONA, Apr 6, 2009 / FW/ — Inspired by the Greek myth of Narcissus, who drowned as a result of falling in love with his own reflection in the water, Laura Figueras created “mirror images” of elements incorporated in the clothes.
Case in point, the diagonal pleating on a blouse one the opposite sides of the plackets are mirror images, thus creating a chevron pointing downward; or, there is the traditional /conventional pleating on trousers wherein the pleats face inwards, and thus are also mirror images.
Sometimes, the symmetry is not so obvious. Such is the case with the cutaway sleeveless gray jacket wherein the inside is orange. The ‘mirroring’ effect is seen on the way the ‘flaps’ are opened.
Nothing is at it seems as Figueras Pieces used construction and deconstruction, balance and imbalance in creating the garments.
