NEW YORK, Apr 28, 2009 / FW/ — Last night’s annual presentation of FIT’s graduation BFA fashion design student’s marked a strong and promising ending to their years as students as they embark on their fashion journey as professionals.
Held at the school’s “John E. Reeves Great Hall” and sponsored by Cotton Inc, over 100 looks paraded on the runway wherein students demonstrated their expertise in different areas within the fashion program’s several specialized areas.
Categories consisted of Knitwear, Sportswear, Intimate Apparel, Childrenswear, Special Occasion with a first time debut and incorporation of Menswear which were critiqued by guest judges of which included were Italo Zucchelli and Tim Hamilton. There was also a sectioned featured of shoes, bags and costume jewelry from the accessories department.
Judging designs this evening were Zang Toi, Robert Verdi, Lisa Simlor, and Kate Betts with accompanying mentors Nicole Miller, Dennis Basso, Alexander Wang, Rickie Freeman (Teri Jon), Wenlan Chia (Twinkle), Jerry Delova, Deborah Marquit, and Carolina Zapf (Baby CZ) providing support and advise to students.
This year’s crop of winners are:
- Children’s Wear – Sylwia Siedlecka
- Knitwear – Jacqueline Carley, Sung Hee Bang
- Intimate Apparel – Arnaz Bhujwalla
- Special Occasion – Bonkuk Koo
- Sportswear – Afife Gobelez, Chan-Young Park and Akifumi Shimizu
Overall the student’s supreme efforts were displayed brilliantly on the endless runway under the gleaming spotlight. No wonder there are so many greats (among them: Fransisco Costa, Norma Kamali, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nanette Lapore and Ralph Rucci to name a few) spawning from this world renowned institution.
FIT has been around since 1944, providing the need for highly skilled, well trained fashion business professionals and creators in this ever growing industry we know as fashion.
