NEW YORK, Apr 5, 2009 / FW/ — Every woman needs a bag named after her; the first two that comes to mind are Grace Kelly and Jane Birkin. And now, we have the Linda Bag, named after Linda Fargo, Bergdorf Goodman’s Senior Vice President, Fashion Office and Store Presentation.
A handbag is a key item in a lady’s ensemble. Sometimes, it can tell you the wearer’s future; even a woman’s delicate condition at times. Like the Kelly bag, which actually made its first appearance in the 1930s, but was thrust into the limelight in 1956 when the then pregnant Princess Grace Kelly used her favorite Hermès bag to shield her pregnant stomach from the prying eyes of the paparazzi
The Birkin bag was named and designed after British actress Jane Birkin. In 1981, the head of Hermès observed Jane Birkin struggling with several bags while enplaning. Hermes commissioned the Birkin bag to solve that problem. The Birkin bag was released in 1984.
The Linda bag was conceived based on different circumstances – friendship and mutual respect for each other, by the designer and the bag’s namesake. For Linda Fargo and Nancy Gonzalez, their relationship has expanded over a decade.
“Bergdorf was my first customer when I only had 8 bag styles in 5 colors,” said accessories designer Nancy Gonzalez. Today, her collection has 115 styles in 300 colors.
Linda Fargo, for whom Linda Bag is named, is one of New York’s most influential women when it comes to fashion. The general public might not know her name, but her influence is far reaching. Fargo can single-handedly start a trend among the women of Fifth Avenue and the rest of New York, and sometimes even the whole U.S. will follow.
Commenting about Nancy Gonzalez and her creations, Linda Fargo said, “People stop and ask me whose bag was I wearing and naturally I would say Nancy Gonzalez.”
People began calling the store and inquiring about the bag that Linda wears. As you can see, the collaboration of naming the bag and partnership for the both of them was organic.
The Linda bag is functional and luxurious. It has many great compartments as well as a spacious interior; it also comes in several sizes and different colors. The crocs in which they use are hand chosen by Gonzalez and her team. And because the Nancy Gonzalez atelier controls its production, customization is also an option.
So, what Linda bag does Linda Fargo wear? She opts for the matte black because “it can be dressed up or down, and it makes everything look chic” says Ms. Fargo. And, I concur; Linda knows about the power of being done and she embodies true style.
And for the Linda Bag itself… A beautiful and dynamic bag aptly named, Nancy Gonzalez has the correct formula that will keep her a staple on all the Fifth Avenues of the world.
