BERLIN, Apr 18, 2009 / FW/ — This is the second premiere of Star Trek that arguably stars the hottest young men on the planet but not one fashion house has issued a press release that they had wardrobed any of them.
Even Zoe Saldana, the movie’s only female lead who wore a gorgeous fuchsia cocktail dress and shoes that are just to die for on the red carpet premiere, no one had come out to stake their claim for her simply irresistible look.
Are we back to fashionistas versus geeks? It did not sound that way at Watchmen when Calvin Klein immediately claimed dressing Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan for the London premiere.
Perhaps, it’s because it is Star Trek, the mother of all geekdom. Truly though, John Cho, Eric Bana, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, J.J. Abrams, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine – not one of them is wearing a ballpoint cover.
Outside of playing the roles of sci-fi’s most recognizable characters, not one of them is even nerd adjacent in real life.
Maybe, it will all come together in London. This is Star Trek where surprises are the norm.

For those interested in viewing the premiere today in Leicester Square, there are a couple of streaming webcams available. My personal favourite is the one on the Radisson Edwardian hotel as it has different views available of the area and close ups of the celeb balcony:

What about Simon Pegg? Fans loved him when he was cast because of his “nerd cred”.
According to data from my work, WiseWindow, volume and feelings about the emotions of Star Trek are increasing. Looks like people are getting excited.

WiseFlickGuy – Thanks for telling me about Simon Pegg.
BTW, just for the record, I’m a big Star Trek fan and I’m also a geek though from a twist of fate I became a fashion editor.
And, yes, people are so excited about Star Trek, which is good. 🙂
