PARIS, Oct 7, 2009 / FW/ — For Spring 2010, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac visited the French Polynesia and added a bit of two very popular movies, albeit from different eras – Pirates of the Caribbean and South Pacific to his nostalgic look at the French colony.
From red, yellow, blue and black grass skirt made of raffia matched with an equally colorful conical bra to a totem pole inspired woven mini dress in black and yellow to the kitschy plastic jacket adorned with postcards, once again took a delightful tongue –in-cheek attitude towards French history.
That French Polynesia exists up to today, but it is now so different from the time that France colonized the islands. There is a bit of nostalgia in Castelbajac’s vision, but then again, the world is changing so fast that we don’t even recognize ourselves from 10 years ago.
