FIT Art & Design Facultry Exhibition and Sale
The Museum at FIT
Through December 11, 2010
NEW YORK, Nov 24, 2010 / — The many meanings of light—its glow or illumination, its weightlessness, its buoyancy or playfulness, how it affects color, value, or even the human spirit—are interpreted in Lightness, an exhibition of work by 55 artists who also are faculty members in the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
The artists communicate their vision through paintings, drawings, collage, sculpture, and digital prints, as well as jewelry, mixed media, and projection. The exhibition, organized annually since 1977, is on view at The Museum at FIT through December 11, 2010. Visit http://www.fitnyc.edu/lightness.
All of the art is for sale, with many of the artists donating a portion of their proceeds to Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), a Haiti relief effort.
“The exhibition once again demonstrates the powerful talent of our faculty,” said Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT. “Each year, the School of Art and Design mounts an exhibition of the work its faculty members produce on their own time—away from the demands of the classroom and campus. And each year, we come away from these exhibitions profoundly impressed by these artists’ gifts and grateful for all they can contribute to the development of our students’ potential.”
The Museum at FIT is located on the southwest corner of Seventh Avenue at 27 Street. Exhibition hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 8 pm; Saturday 10 am to 5 pm; closed Sunday, Monday, and legal holidays. Admission is free.
