NEW YORK, Sep 8, 2011/ FW/ — Today at the Lincoln Center, FIT graduate Jusil Carroll took home the grand prize of $10,000 for winning the Supima Design Competition.

With editor and stylist Rachel Zoe as host, the fourth annual Supima Design Competition runway finale got underway in The Studio at Lincoln Center after 1 p.m. E.S.T. with the entire fashion show broadcasted live in real time from both the Supima.com website and Supima’s Facebook page.

During the broadcast, eight recent graduates representing the “best of the best” in the graduating class of America’s four top design schools squared off for a $10,000 first prize as each presented a five-piece capsule collection of women’s eveningwear.

This year’s finalists were: Amy Bittner and Jusil Carroll from the Fashion Institute of Technology; MaRu Jung and Dara Rosen from Pratt Institute; Rachel Pullman and Connie Weng from the Rhode Island School of Design; and Lorena Cuevas and Marlow Larson from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Winner Jusil Carroll, 34, who is a native of Busan, South Korea, came to fashion after a career in illustration and matriculated at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design this year, because “it’s one of very few schools to offer a focus on knitwear.”

A recipient of last year’s $25,000 CFDA Liz Claiborne Design Scholarship, she also won a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence and placed first in the 2011 AFT International Fashion Sketch Contest.

In her Competition collection, she says, “I was inspired by ‘The Blair Witch Project’ . . . I love the idea that each person interprets the witch differently and all they are left with is a sense of mystery and thrill.” At FIT, her faculty mentor for the Supima Design Competition was Lisa Donofrio.
