LOS ANGELES, Apr 13, 2014/ — At the H&M event last night at the Coachella Music Festival, in Palm Springs, California, revelers were given the most pleasant surprise. The trendy retailer announced that their next designer collaboration will be with Alexander Wang. This partnership marks the first time that an American designer teams up with H&M on the much anticipated designer collaboration.
The New York based Fashion Designer’s eponymous brand has firmly established itself by perpetually evolving and re-contextualizing the urban uniform, since it was launched on the runway in 2007. Alexander Wang’s core sensibility is a reflection on contrasts, blending seamlessly between the refined and the imperfect. His collections have an unprecious outlook on fashion, and always reflect a sense of ease.
The Alexander Wang x H&M collection will feature apparel and accessories for women and men. Typical for his irreverent approach, Wang will propose a new take on the lifestyle product offering that goes beyond fashion. The full collection will be available in 250 H&M stores worldwide, and online starting November 6, 2014.
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Alexander Wang moved to New York to attend Parsons School of Design. In 2005, after two years, launched his own label and by Spring 2007, it has evolved into a full ready-to-wear and the collection was shown for the first time on the runway in Fall 2007.
Wang went from strength to strength, in 2009, he was named Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year. Men’s ready-to-wear launched in 2011 and Alexander Wang was acknowledged by GQ as Best Menswear Designer of the Year and by the CFDA for Best Accessory Designer that same year.
Alexander Wang opened its first flagship store, February 2011, in SOHO, NYC. From there, his fashion empire grew into over 18 stores worldwide, including its own E-Commerce site shipping to more than 50 countries.
In addition to designing his eponymous label, Alexander Wang is the Creative Director of Balenciaga, effective December 2012.
