Winning a Fashion Group International Award on his graduation earned him a placement with Donna Karan New York where he honed his skills. Taking his knowledge to the next level, he moved to Paris and worked at Cerruti.
Satisfied that he has learned what he needed to start his own label, he moved back to Australia in 1999, having been away for two years, (one year in New York and one year in Paris)
That same year that he went back to Melbourne, the 22-year old designer (he was born in 1977) launched ‘Maticevski’. He would be known for his folding, twisting, draping and pleating techniques wherein he combined couture elements with modern styles. In 2002, he won the “New Designer Award” at the Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Hauntingly beautiful, Maticevski’s creations are timeless with an ephemeral quality in it. Season after season, he explores the silhouette to find reinvent the classic into modern statements.
