MILAN, Sep 27, 2008 / FW/ — When is a cliché not a cliché? When it is on the Les Copains catwalk. A collection that offers all the trends beginning with the beige and nude color palette to transparent and latticework including jumper dresses and mannish jackets.
But, Les Copains’ execution is unique where mannish became feminine and tomboyish jumpers was turned into delicately feminine. Case in point, the short cropped jacket were cropped just enough to show the midriff is tailored enough to make it mannish, but the low neckline and thin lapels, plus it is paired with a pleated mini skirt makes it sexy, even girly.
Ruffles, layers even the occasional peplum balanced the sexy bandeaus with geometric beads that look ethnic, except that they are made of hard plastic, thus very modern. Surprisingly, everything gels and quite frankly, this is one of the prettiest collections of the season.
In an era when niche marketing is the name of the game, including on American television where the EMMY winners are meant for a certain demographic instead of the traditional cross section of society, Les Copains gives a nod to this trend.
A very youthful collection that is meant for the 14 – 34 year old age group, Les Copains is perfect for ‘Gossip Girl’. Too bad that the sequel of ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ is already done and expected to be in theaters soon because this collection would be perfect for it too.
