MILAN, Feb 24, 2009 / FW/ — The Milan season has not started yet, but the rumor mill is on overtime as the global financial crisis hit the fashion capitals. The scuttlebutt that Gianfranco Ferré had cancelled its catwalk show was so rampant that the maison issued a statement today that the show is CONFIRMED for Friday, February 27th.
“In view of recent unfounded rumours, Gianfranco Ferré hereby confirms that the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 women’s show will take place, as scheduled, during Milan Fashion Week on Friday, February 27th,” the very short and sweet release from the Milanese fashion house said.
The company CEO Michela Piva then said, “Even at this moment it is the precise duty of Gianfranco Ferré to work with utmost commitment to protect and defend the values intrinsic to the brand, in light of what it has represented, represents and will continue to represent in the realm of Italian and international fashion and culture.”
“It wouldn’t be right for a single season of financial difficulties, accentuated by an unprecedented global economic crisis, to compromise the patrimony and legacy of the Ferré brand worldwide,” Ms. Piva adds.
“The company considers this responsibility as no less than a duty that it will fulfil with conviction and determination, in the interest of everyone who has relations with the house: customers, suppliers, business partners and media.”
