MADRID, Apr 24, 2009 UPDATED APR 13, 2010/ FW/ — Founded by Luis Devota nd Modesto Lomba in 1986, Devota & Lomba caught the Spanish fashionista’s attention when they debuted on the Madrid runway in 1988 and subsequently won the Cristóbal Balenciaga Award for the best new designers in 1989.

Going from strength to strength, Devota & Lomba debuted in Paris in 1989 and in San Francisco, California in 1990. This was followed by designing costumes for the National Dance Company’s work «Mediterránia» choreographed by Nacho Duato in 1992.
With Luis Devota’s untimely death in the mid-1990s, Modesto Lomba took the creative helm and continued developing the label under the Devota & Lomba banner expanding to bridal wear in 1995. In 1996 the El Corte Inglés chain of department stores began to stock the firm’s clothes.
Modesto Lomba also continued their work on theater and the movies with Devota & Lomba designing the costumes for for the play “Arte”, directed by José María Flotats, as well as in the design of the wardrobe for the work Poeta for the Spanish National Ballet and the commemoration of its 20th anniversary.
The year 2000 marked two milestones for the label. Modesto Lomba was appointed President of the Association of Spanish Fashion Creators, a post which he still holds. Devota & Lomba also opened its first boutique in Calle Castelló 14 in Madrid.
Embarking on a worldwide expansion, Devota & Lomba showed at Moscow Fashion Week and Belgrade Fashion Week in 2005 during the Fall 2006 season. That same year, the Devota & Lomba studio, engaged in architecture and interior design was established with the Refurbishment of the Casa Palacio Santa Ana in Seville as its first project.
In 2006, Modesto Lomba receives the «Dedication to Fashion» Award from Doña Carmen Calvo, Minister of Culture, and Mr. Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, Mayor of Seville, within the inaugural act of Seville Fashion Week 2007.
The next year, 2007 saw Devota & Lomba designing kitchen furniture for Bossia and unveiling the first carpet collection for Alfombras Peña followed by the presentation of the «Devota & Lomba Space» Suite in the Marqués de Vallejo Hotel in Logroño in 2008.
Born and raised in Chicago, Sheiglagh Hawkins is not a stranger to high fashion. Surprisingly enough, moving to South Carolina with its romantic past captured Sheiglagh's imagination. She fell in love with the costumes of the Pre-Civil War era and her love affair with fashion history began.
