With a population of around 230 million people, making the world’s fourth most populous country, Indonesia’s influence is a given. Now, the country wants to make its mark in the world of fashion and Jakarta Fashion Week, now on its second year is its vehicle.

Taking place at the luxurious Pacific Place Mall from Nov 14 – 19, 2009, Jakarta Fashion Week serves as a vital element in the ongoing effort to consolidate not only Jakarta as a prominent fashion hub in Asia but also to introduce Indonesian Fashion to the rest of the world.

This year, JFW hosts no less than 60 of Indonesia’s top designers from both APPMI and IPMI, not forgetting a bevy of other independents. Renowned designers such as Carmanita, Ghea Panggabean, Poppy Dharsono, Stephanus Hamy, Taruna Kusmayadi, Anne Avantie, Oscar Lawalata, Deden Siswanto, Barli, and Oka Diputra will amaze and entertain fashion enthusiasts with their breathtaking collections.

Aside from highlighting the talents of Indonesia’s local designers, JFW 09/10 is also proud to present a very special collaboration between Indonesia and India. This cultural collaboration merges two equally magnificent events, Festival of India and Jakarta Fashion Week 09/10.

Two of Indonesia’s most acclaimed designers, Sebastian Gunawan and Priyo Oktaviano will join two of India’s most distinguished designers Tarun Tahiliani and Malini Ramani in showcasing their interpretation of each other’s cultural wealth at the Gala Dinner Charity Night hosted by Dewi Magazine.

JFW 09/10 is also excited to introduce new and upcoming young designers through the reputable Fashion Design Competition (LPM) 2009.

Founded in 1979 by Femina and Gadis magazines, this competition has jumpstarted the careers of many talents such as Anne Rufaidah, Carmanita, Chossy Latu, Edward Hutabarat, Itang Yunasz, Musa Widyatmodjo, Samuel Wattimena, Tuty Cholid, Widhi Budimulia, Sally Koeswanto, and Denny Wirawan. The winner of this year’s competition will receive the opportunity to study at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Los Angeles.

“We hope that JFW 09/10 will be bigger and better from last year. This is one of the ways for us to champion Indonesian Fashion so that it may be more appreciated by its public,” explains Svida Alisjahbana, Chief Operating Officer Femina Group and Head Director of JFW 09/10.
